The Shebang

The Shebang A Fine Dining and Drinking Establishment on Monkey Island. The most fun you can have with your clothes on!

Do the whole Shebang!

For more than three decades, Grand Lake visitors and residents alike have gathered nightly at The Shebang Restaurant on Monkey Island for food, fun and foolishness.

Open seven days a week from 5:00 p.m. and for Sunday Brunch from 10:00 a.m. 'til 2:00 p.m., The Shebang has something for everyone.  The Burlesque Room offers intimate dining and drinking in an opulent burlesque setting from days gone by.  Families enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of The Vaudeville Room.  The Back Stage Room offers the ultimate in fine dining, and is also available for private parties with sit-down fine dining in privacy for up to 80 guests.

There is the perfect dinner for everyone, too.  The Shebang prides itself on the best Baby Back Ribs anywhere and Prime Rib "to die for."  Steaks, seafood and poultry dishes are complemented by outstanding salads and side dishes, as well as a wide array of appetizers.  Pasta lovers will enjoy the best hand-made pasta used in the creations of  dishes that would create jealous comments from the chefs at restaurants in Rome  – and the build-your-own pizza choices are the best this side of New York City!  Or, if you're not that hungry, enjoy the best cheeseburger anywhere, or perhaps our famous Prime Buns.

No cigar or pipe smoking is allowed, but cigarette smokers enjoy dining and drinking in the Standing Room Only Bar or, seasonally, the outdoor patio.  Smoking is also allowed upstairs in the open-air Balcony Bar, open seasonally with a wide variety of adult beverages and karaoke fun on Friday and Saturday nights (must be 21 to enter).

Premium liquors, fine wines, cordials and a variety of domestic and imported beers complement any meal – or any evening plans for outrageous fun.  For those who want to fly in for the fun, Grand Lake Regional Airport is less than a quarter-mile away, and stretch limousine service is always available to customers of The Shebang.  Here's your chance to get away from it all with your family, friends – or without them!  We've got it all.  If you can't stay for the fun, we'll be happy to prepare your order "to go," and you can claim you cooked it yourself.

You can do "the whole shebang" at one luxurious, outrageous fine dining, drinking and merry-making establishment...The Shebang!  Located on Highway 125 on Monkey Island, just past Grand Lake Regional Airport.  Look for the pink Cadillac.  Call 918-257-5569 for information, "to go" orders or reservations.  The Shebang is ADA compliant.  Meeting space is available.  We accept most major credit cards and stacks of cash.

The Strangest of Histories

Once upon a time, "Papa" Larry and "Crazy" Joyce Duke were school teachers.  They spent a summer working as Recreation Coordinators at the old Shangri-La Resort and, as they say, the rest is history.  Then went back home, fulfilled their contractual obligations, returned to Grand Lake and never looked back.

The original Shebang was little more than an ice cream parlor and a small store.  But the expansion was soon underway.  Addition after addition went up.  Menu item after menu item was added.  The Den of Uniquity clothing store was added.  Later, they purchased a club across the street, now known as the popular Big Shots.

Through all the years of expansion, Joyce's fertile imagination generated several Monkey Island institutional events – the original Cattle Egret Festival and Egret Queen Competition, along with the 4th of July Turtle Races on Main Street Monkey Island.  Today, the original Great American Suck-Off is still a mainstay of Labor Day Sunday (it's a pasta speed-eating contest – what did you think?), and the Old Coots No Talent/Talent Show joins the Croak-Off (outrageous lyrics to popular tunes) as the two most anticipated events of the year.

Larry and Joyce's commitment to community and charity is legendary.  Over the years, their events have raised thousands upon thousands of dollars for the Humane Society of Grove and Grand Lake, the Monkey Island Clothes & Toys for Kids Christmas Fund, and countless other charities.  They host the "Island Cookie Baking and Delivery" on holidays, delivering delectable sweets and holiday cheer to area nursing homes and assisted living centers.

They are among the most outrageous and unpredictable couples on Grand Lake – and their nightly festivities at The Shebang prove the point; but their hearts are the size of the lake, and the entire Grand Lake community is fortunate to have been blessed by their leadership for over 30 years.

Come by and check out the fun for yourself.  Many visitors have made The Shebang a regular stop.  Be forewarned, though.  After a while, most of them just gave up the ghost, and moved to Grand Lake full-time.  That's the ultimate definition of joining in the fun for "The Whole Shebang!"
